Dr. Park received the grant of $490,592 for the international collaborative work on high-sensitivity THz sensors for facility security and food safety, supported by <strong>Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, South Korea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aug. 2023:<\/strong>&nbsp;An undergraduate student, Ms. Jeanette Arratia, joined our group for her undergraduate research project (ME499). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aug. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Ms. Ya-Hsin Cheng&nbsp;successfully defended his MSME thesis, entitled &#8220;A liquid prism array for constant illumination via electrowetting\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aug. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Dr. Park had an invited talk in the 36<sup>th<\/sup> US-Korea Conference (<strong>UKC 2023<\/strong>) on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship, Dallas, TX, USA, Aug. 2 &#8211; 5, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jun. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Fermin Martinez-Contreras joined our group for Summer Undergraduate Research Program supported by SDSU MESA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Dr. Park had an invited talk in the 18th International Conference on Nano\/Micro Engineered and Molecular systems (<strong>IEEE NEMS 2023<\/strong>), Jeju, Korea, May 14 &#8211; 17, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apr. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Andrew Lin&nbsp;successfully defended his MSBioE thesis, entitled &#8220;Light-controlled droplet trapping, merging, and releasing in a PDMS-based microchannel device\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apr. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Ms. Yeonwoo Lee\u2019s work on a 3D spatial focal control system was published in <strong>Optics Express (IF: 3.833).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Feb. 2023:<\/strong><\/strong> <\/strong>A visiting scholar, Dr. Kwak, joined our lab for collaborative work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 2023:<\/strong>&nbsp;Mr. Janev\u2019s work on a smartphone integrated paper (SIP) system  for rapid and on-site screening of urinary tract infections was published in <strong>Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical (IF: 9.221).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Cheng-Hsun Lee&nbsp;successfully defended his MSME thesis, entitled &#8220;3D spatial focal control by arrayed optofluidic prisms\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong><strong>Feb. 2023:<\/strong><\/strong> <\/strong>A graduate student, Daniel Arzate, joined our group for the master&#8217;s degree study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jan. 2023:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Lee\u2019s work on a 3D spatial focal control system was accepted for an oral presentation in the 36th IEEE International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems <strong>(IEEE MEMS 2023)<\/strong>, Munich, Germany, Jan. 15 \u2013 19, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oct. 2022:&nbsp;<\/strong>Dr. Park had an invited talk about &#8220;a smartphone-based biosensor for water quality detection&#8221; in IEEE Sensors, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aug. 2022:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Athul Janev&nbsp;successfully defended his MSBioE thesis, entitled &#8220;A smartphone-integrated, paper microfluidic system for rapid and on-site diagnosis of urinary tract infections\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jul. 2022:<\/strong>&nbsp;A review paper on optoelectrowetting (OEW) technology was published in <strong>Lab on a Chip (IF: 7.517).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jun. 2022:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Janev\u2019s work on smartphone-based detection of urinary tract infections (UTIs) was accepted for a poster presentation in the 26th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Science <strong>(MicroTAS 2022)<\/strong>, Hangzhou, China, Oct. 23 \u2013 27, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apr. 2022:<\/strong> A current JDP student, Yeonwoo Lee, was awarded the <strong>2022-2023 University Graduate Fellowship (UGF)<\/strong> from SDSU. Congratulations!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mar. 2022:<\/strong> Mr. Sen, a new JDP student, was awarded the <strong>2022-2023 Presidential Graduate Research Fellowship (PGRF)<\/strong> from SDSU. Congratulations!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Mar. 2022:<\/strong><\/strong> A visiting scholar, Dr. Koo, joined our lab for collaborative work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feb. 2022:<\/strong>&nbsp;Mr. Thio\u2019s work on Lab-on-a-Smartphone (LOS) for in-situ water quality detection was published in  <strong>Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical<\/strong> (IF: 9.221).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jan. 2022:<\/strong>&nbsp; Mr. Thio\u2019s work on  plasmonic-enhanced optical DEP manipulation  was published in <strong>Micromachines (IF: 3.523). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jan 2022:<\/strong>&nbsp;An undergraduate student, Mr. Luke Adame, joined our group for his undergraduate research project (ME499). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oct. 2021:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Thio\u2019s work on smartphone-based water quality detection was presented in the 25th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Science <strong>(MicroTAS 2021)<\/strong>, Palm Spring, CA, USA, Oct. 10 \u2013 14, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Sept<\/strong><\/strong><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">. 2021:<\/strong> A visiting scholar, Dr. Lee, joined our lab for collaborative work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aug. 2021:&nbsp;<\/strong>Two PhD students, Yeonwoo Lee and Joy Islam, joined our group for their doctoral degree study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 2021:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Thio\u2019s work on plasmonic-enhanced FEOET was presented in the 21st International Conference on Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems <strong>(Transducers 2021)<\/strong>, Online, June 20 &#8211; 25, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 2021:<\/strong>&nbsp;An undergraduate student, Mr. Ala Zeidan, joined our group for his undergraduate research project (ME499). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May 2021:&nbsp;<\/strong>Mr. Sterlen Barnes successfully completed the Plan B Project for his MSME program.
